I interviewed Jeremy Miller who works at Pigment Dermagraphics in Austin, Texas. The studio is located at 12233 Ranch Road 620 NorthAustin, TX 78750, Cal them at 512-331-5476 and view them on
www.PigmentATX.com . He works Tuesday thru Saturday, Sunday and Monday appointment only.
Jeremy always was interested in tattoos, when he turned 18 years old he decided to give it a shot after drawing his friends tattoos,he had a tattoo that he had drawn and said “WHY NOT”. He left college, joined the Air Force, and he put tattooing as a part time job never thinking he would do it as a career. Jeremy had “a joke of apprenticeship” he says, he learned to tattoo mostly from watching the artists he admires.
Jeremy’s style is a blend of New Skool and Realism. New Skool is a cartoonish style of tattooing and realism is photo realistic. His style is very popular among his clients. He likes things that can laugh at while he does the tattoo. He tattooed a chick-fil-a sandwich with fancy sauce on my mom’s butt, I’m sure he had to get a few laughs out of that! Jeremy’s style is very bold and colorful no matter what it is. His work is influenced a lot by Graffiti ( I <3 Graffiti ), cartoony art and from even flat imagary of traditional tattoo style. Most of his clients give him ideas then let him do his thing on the artwork.
He has recently started working with textures and colored lines but is most importantly working on line weights. Jeremy WILL NOT do letters, he says he isn’t good at them. He WILL NOT do tribal he doesn’t like it.
I asked him about his tattoos, he has a half sleeve from Jeff Ensminger, and hopefully it will be a full sleeve soon he says. He also has pieces from artists such as Johnny Gruesome, Jason Reeder, Brad Worrel, Joey Foote, and a few other. He really admires the work of Jeff Ensminger, Timmy B, Nick Baxter, and Billy Beans. He loves the artwork of Shari Caldwell and Butch Von Dreaux.
Jeremy just simply loves what he does, from the process of creating something to the finish of a new tattoo, It excites him!
What bugs him is that no matter how well a piece comes out, he still sees a little imperfections and he beats himself up over it.
His “DREAM” client is pale, smoth skin with no existing tattoos. Who would let him open his mind and let him do whatever he wants. This is the complete opposite of him because he is tattooed.
He does a lot of drawings with colored pencils ( I <3 his owl drawing) and paints on shoes. He says he wishes he could force himself to paint on canvas more.
I asked him what he does for fun, He said he tattoos but most of his free time he spends with his wife, Abbey and his daughter, Holland. They play with toys and watch Phineas and Ferb. Funny enough my little brother, Lucca and Mom are watching that while I am writing this.
I think Jeremy is a cool guy, his artwork is very FUN and I am looking foward to meeting him next week at Tattoolapalooza in Miami, FL.
Be sure to add him on facebook and Check out his porfolio.
Also his new clothing line at www.pigment.deco-dork.com and of course buy stuff.
